Introduction to ADSL
ADSL sometimes called broadband is a service that allows you to
connect to the Internet via your telephone line. It is a far
superior service to any normal dial-up access and functions at up
to 40 times faster. ADSL once installed also allows you to connect
to the Internet and use the same telephone line for voice calls or
faxes simultaneously. You may also connect more than one PC and so
run a LAN from the same connection.
It is a service that is very easy to install and does not require
anything other than a normal single BT phone line and an ADSL
modem or ADSL Router and a Microfilter. There is no need for
anyone to visit your premises unless we encounter a technical
problem.
All you need to do is follow the order registration process and
provide your credit or debit card details. As soon as we receive
your order we will email you a confirmation and then contact you
within five working days to inform you of the progress of your
order. The whole process normally takes a maximum of ten working
days.
Requirements
for an ADSL Connection
There are a number of factors that will dictate if your telephone
line is suitable for the ADSL service.
1. First and foremost you must have a normal single BT phone line.
Please ensure the BT phone line is already installed at the
premises you wish to have the ADSL service connected to and the BT
phone account is in your name or in the name of a person who has
agreed to this service. The ADSL service you purchase with Anet
will run against the current holder of the BT phoneline rental
account that you specify. If this person stops or amends their BT
account then the ADSL service will automatically cease.
2. The phone line cannot be an ISDN line, a Redcare Alarm line, a
PABX system (i.e.part of an internal switchboard system), a Cable
line or any other fibre optic line.
3.ADSL is a service that is run on your normal BT phone line. Your
phone line is connected to a BT exchange and the length of your
cable could be several kilometers long. ADSL can only function on
a phone line that is no longer than 5.5km and from an exchange
that has been enabled with this service. If your phone line
exceeds this specified maximum length or your local exchange has
not been enabled with the ADSL equipment then unfortunately this
service cannot be provided.
4. The quality of your line must also be of a high enough standard
that the ADSL frequencies function correctly. If we discover the
quality is too low then this service cannot be provided. Line
quality is measured in decibels and the higher the decibel reading
the lower the quality of your line.
5. Minimum PC requirements :
- Pentium 200Mhz
- 32MB RAM
- 16-bit sound card
- Four-speed CD-ROM player
- Video card/display 800 x 600,
256 colours
- 150MB free on hard drive
- Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000
Professional or XP
- A USB port
Mac computers are not supported for Anet Broadband.
